Close Encounters of the ‘Turd’ Kind… Part 2.

-and I’m still not talking with an Irish accent.

Back for another liberal dosing of  fertilizer for metaphoric rose garden that is UFOlogy is, again, The Sun..

Cover Unit In UFO Hunt

THE US Air Force had a secret unit that probed UFO sightings for 22 years. Project Blue Book ran from 1947 and examined 12,618 sightings – 701 of which were filed as “unidentified”.

Please take note of the terms used here – ‘Unidentified‘ as opposed to ‘Alien driven space vehicals’ or ‘E.T and his mates, out on a probing mission’. Unidentified means it was impossible from the witness reports, photos, video evidence – whatever, to reach a positive conclusion that the witness had seen anything, let alone identify it.

Reports went direct to the FBI‘s Washington HQ but documents do not reveal staff numbers or budget.

Where else would they go? Disney land?

Investigators FAILED to get to the bottom of the mystery sightings, then closed Blue Book in 1969 citing “extreme pressure on Air Force funds”.

… which makes this, in my opinion, a very honest report – I’d be questioning the agents integrity if they had just sat in an office agreeing with anyone who reported ‘Peggy Lou saw men from Mars out by the fishin’ hole’. Contrary to popular belief, you do need to have evidence to conclude a case either way – without evidence, the case must remain inconclusive or unknown.

A Department of Air Force memo – in a newly released FBI dossier – tried to rubbish theories of alien visits saying the 22-year probe concluded:

No UFOs had been a threat to national security

None of the sighted aircraft were more technologically advanced than anything in “present day scientific knowledge”.

There was no evidence of “extraterrestrial vehicles”

No, it didnt try to rubbish theories of alien visits, it stated its findings. just cos you dont like their findings doesnt mean youre allowed to rubbish them – ‘all that glisters isnt gold’.

I think what bugs me most about this article is againagain, its not news – My copy of the Hynek UFO Report by Dr J. Allen Hynek was printed in 1998. This book has always had all the above (and a hell of a lot more interesting) Blue Book stuff in it.

Duh….
